Okay.....I don't get it...when I see two 17-19 year old males walking down the street dressed like hip hop hoodlums: chains, that if real, they'd never be able to afford, pants that need a helping hand and for Gods sakes, it's called a 'sun visor' and should point to the front you product of an in bred....no, that's not fair to inbred's.....What I'm wondering is, if those brave men that landed and died at Normandy Beach, Sicily, North Africa, Philippines....I can go on but, do you think if they knew where society was going they might of opted not to go to war...? I know it sounds...I don't know, stupid of me to even think that way, but a lot of the morons out there don't get 'it'. What is 'it' to you fine people.....I grew up with John Wayne and Kirk Douglas, Henry Fonda, Michael Landon, Bonanza as my teachers of morality and courage....I know there is honor in this world, I just wish we could find some leaders that display some.
I grew up as one of those guys. Shorts pulled down around my waist with tall Dr. Martens boots and socks pulled all the way up, shirt buttoned up only at the top 2 buttons and some real strange haircuts from time to time and a specifically colored bandanna hanging out of my left rear pocket.
It took me joining the Army to get out of that "life" and get straight with what a real man acts like.
"It" to me is simply a sense of knowing what an adult is expected to look and act like, not a "Stepford" adult by any means but a certain level of common sense and properly placed judgment.

While I don't like many of the things that are going on in the country today, including (especially) the political BS, I haven't given up on this country yet. If it takes it, I'll fight for it just like those folks did. Sadly I think it is going to take a fight to get this country back on track. I just wish it would get started so I could rest in peace knowing that the country will be okay for my kids...

I used to have long hair and a ponytail along with earrings before and after being in the service. I was a good and respectful person but thought I had something to prove to people by making them look past my looks to who I really was.
I grew out of it. Just because someone dresses odd, doesn't mean they can't be a contributing member of society.
My problem isn't with the people who don't want to conform, it's with the people who look like the rest of us but want US to conform to the nanny state. I think there are a lot of people out there with old fashioned views of the country but are not as outspoken as the flaming libs.
I agree with Bumper that there will be a day when it comes down to a fight.

The fight comes when YOU refuse to CONFORM.

Maybe I meant the attitude and not so much the dress code.....

I believe the fight will come when a great number of people refuse to conform. Do it individually and they will win before you really even get started....

Individually, you bet. Reference the sovereignty movement. State governments are beginning to resist conforming. They are backed by the people represented (majority, probably). A groundswell of distaste, distrust, and dissatisfaction with the fed gov't is becoming more common.

Okay.....so I have to conform? I just think that when I'm in a diner with my 10 year old and the waitress brings her a soda and my daughters says 'thank you', the waitress shouldn't look shocked. 'Your daughter is soooo polite, what a good girl.....' Okay, yes, she is a good girl and polite....other kids just grunt I guess. So, if the majority of society have become unfeeling, selfish little s**ts, then those of us that prefer to hold a door open for the people walking in behind us are abnormal and should conform?
Excuse me a sec....

Okay, better now but still confused although revolt seems to be a word I'm hearing more and more...

No, I don't believe you have to conform to the examples you gave. I guess we moved a little beyond the original intent of this thread and was talking more about fighting the BS coming out of the government. It is, after all, the root of all of our problems. Keep teaching the kids manners and holding those doors. I do.... :yup:

What disgusts many of us, and its been happening for years, is that many of these young men and women are products of broken homes subsidised by you and me. Products of a liberal education, if any, that teaches no accountability, responsibility, self-respect, honor etc...
It is only apparent to those of who give a damn, unfortunately, the rest operate from some sort of entitlement mentality, where whats yours is mine, some sort of perverse sick parallel universe, I am rambling now. :icon_mecker:
