Who's excited? What are you hunting for? What are you using?

I drew buck tags for deer and antelope this year. I also just put a new scope on my .308. October can't come soon enough!

I'm excited...more meat for the freezer. Although, I'm not to keen on the "drawing" of "tags". I've always been of the opinion that the deer, squirrel, rabbits, etc... all preexisted us and the law and will or will not exist whether we are here or not. The idea of licensing, tagging, etc... is BS.

Nothing left to hunt. What didn't burn in the Spring wildfires, has died from heat and thirst.

I am going to get my hunting license, including a deer tag ans start hunting for a place to hunt. We have several tracts of Missouri Conservation Land just a mile or two from us that is open to the public. I have no plans for hunting my own property until I have to. We have several deer that pretty much stay here all the time and I hope they continue. If the SHTF, I would take one from here....

About the only hunting that I can afford to do is dove hunting. And that only every other year.

Unfortunately, most of the doves around here live in developed areas; too close to buildings, etc.

I haven't been deer hunting in over 10 years. It's just too expensive for me.

Sorry to hear about all those that don't have the opportunity this year. Sounds like a nice setup there Bumper; we have a herd that stays in the general area, when we first moved in I found the napping up against the back of my house. The area that I hunt is about a 3 hour drive though.

I'm going to my lease tomorrow for three days. The landowner told me that all the stock tanks have dried up, and he is taking advantage of it by having a bulldozer clean out all the silt that has settled in them over the years. He had to move all his cattle to pastures in Oklahoma. He said that if this years hunt is as bad as he expects it to be, he'll not charge us for next years hunt. Nice guy. All I expect to see is Jackrabbits and horned toads. Calling for Coyotes should be productive.

We still see deer daily here. There is a pond just across the road at a neighbor's place and they water there and then come back, graze around the grass on top of our hill then browse the brush leading back onto the side of the mountain. Any time I come in late at night they are up around our driveway. They have not gotten into the garden even once this year. I wish I could say the same for the terrapins....

Got my Mountain Lion and Deer Tags in my pocket.
I'll go for Duck and Coyotes too. Of course I won't turn down a Goose, Bobcat, or Bear either. To round it out I'll take and put a few Rabbits in the pot.

I've been thinking about going hunting this year too. Perhaps its all of that "Sportsman Channel" T.V. I've been watching lately...lol. I was thinking about calling up a friend to see if he wants to go deer hunting.

Did anybody see the news coverage of the new wildfire in Polo Pinto County Texas?? That's out hunting lease. Same area as the April fires. Over twenty high-dollar resort homes were lost yesterday. Depressing as heck.

Sorry to hear about your hunting lease, but I am a fan of fire.
My state, AZ, went through some horrific fires this year but with every negative thing comes a positive. My deer hunting area has some of the best grass around since the rains came on schedule, after being burned to a crisp. Right now things may seem bad for you, but if you look hard enough you can probably find a benefit to these fires. You may have to be patient, and wait a season or two, but I'm positive the benefits will be there.
Fire is nature's way of managing itself. It seems we humans tend to muck things up, no matter how well intentioned we think we are. Best of luck to you and be patient. The benefits will start to show themselves to you when they are ready.

Sorry to hear about your hunting lease, but I am a fan of fire.

I have been systematically burning my place for the past couple of months. The ugliness of it only lasts awhile until you can see signs of grasses coming back. I get rid of a lot of weeds, brush and deadfalls, etc. I am going to clear a swath around my house to improve the looks but also reduce the ticks and snakes and give the deer more grass. They will still have plenty of brush to browse on as well.
