Well, our house sold (in one day) and we are now in a mad whirlwind of planning to get moved by the end of August. To complicate things, our son graduates from Navy bootcamp on September 2nd. All this is probably continue to make me mighty scarce around here for awhile. I appreciate the moderators taking care of things while I'm out.
All that being said, we are REALLY excited about getting out of here and getting to a place where we can actually feed ourselves if the shit hits the proverbial fan. And, I'm convinced, that we will probably hit one sooner or later.....

Good luck with getting things packed up and moved to your new, milder, wetter and more shaded climate in Missouri.
In my mind you just can't beat the middle of this country. Sure there are some beautiful areas in the west, southwest, north and east coast, but I will take the middle middle of the country any day. Too many resources here to want to be anyplace else.

Sold in one day!!! That is awesome!!
Congratulations, Bumper.
If I was close by, I'd offer a helping hand.
Be sure to stock up on bug spray. You'll be right in the middle of tick and chigger territory!!!

No problem, Patti, I'm getting a lot of offers from relatives wanting a place to stay for their future vacations.
On the ticks and chiggers, my real estate agent told me about this (http://www.cabelas.com/cabelas/en/templates/links/link.jsp?id=0057927415035a&type=product&cmCat=SEARCH_all&returnPage=search-results1.jsp&Ntk=Product_liberal&QueryText=ticks&sort=all&Go.y=0&N=0&Nty=1&hasJS=true&_dyncharset=ISO-8859-1&_DARGS=%2Fcabelas%2Fen%2Fcommon%2Fsearch%2Fsearch-box.jsp.form23&Go.x=0) stuff. Swears he hasn't had a tick or chigger bite in 10 years. He buys it by the case. Gonna get me some... :yup:
Patti - you forgot to remind Bumper about the SNAKES!
I don't worry about snakes much. Living here in Arizona for 20 years has my head swiveling all of the time in snake country. In that time I have seen two.
I just spent the weekend at Branson.
Where did you end up?
In Forsyth, just across Bull Shoals, maybe 13 miles from Branson. We're really excited but I am really hating to give up my work with the Sheriff's Office and it doesn't look like Tany County has a reserve program. I may have to come down your way and at least do a ride-along....
Here's a visual tour of the house since it is now officially sold:

Wow. That's a serious fence around that garden!!!
So, are you going to get a bunch of dogs to fill up all of those kennels? (I've got a couple of jack russels you can have)
You've got a lot of space there, Bumper.
One thing I really approve of is the wood burning stove. If the power goes out, you'll not only have heat, but you'll have something to cook on.
Very nice, Bumper.
I think you'll be so busy taking care of stuff that you won't have much time on your hands to miss your sheriff's job back in Arizona.
Besides (the way I see it), you have put your family in a much safer spot if the balloon goes up. I am really worried that there will be an all out battle taking place in Arizona in the not too distant future.
You did good!!
Almost forgot - I like that door with the diamond shaped glass....However, I'd have a spare door in storage (solid wood or steel). If the SHTF, that door would be really easy to break into.

Holy crap Bumper! I'm just not living right. Seriously nice digs.
Welcome to Missouri! Taney County is definitely the place to be. Great public safety resources. Excellent fire district.
You'll be hiding out in style.

If you are getting dogs...may I suggest hounds. We have a basset and coon hound. When they "sing" outside at night...it is almost like music. Just not as pleasant when the basset hound does it in the back seat. We are wearing earplugs to get her used to "rides". Get a Basset, Blue Tick, Bloodhound and a Dachshund and you will have a entire chorus in that kennel.
When we lived in the middle of 60 acres....I used AVON'S Skin So Soft and it kept ticks and chiggers at bay. If you have dogs, I highly recommend Front line. It costs a few, but I have found nothing better for fleas and ticks even in the country.
I think you will find Missouri a great place to live. I moved here from Kansas and have never looked back. I have a great metal "poster" in my mud room of Dorothy and her dog looking at Emerald City with the caption of "I don't think we are in Kansas any more, Toto." She is so right.

Thanks, all. We've been so busy trying to get everything lined up for the move, getting our mortgage in the works, both closings, inspections, termite inspections, appraisals, etc that I have had little time to keep up here. Not to mention that I am so burned out on politics right now.
Nope, we're not going to be raising dogs. The little building that is set up for dog grooming is going to eventually be a summer kitchen with either a wood and or gas stove. We will probably leave the big pen to put our dog in when we have to be gone for awhile but the little 6x6 foot "playhouse" is destined to become a smokehouse. The small row of dog pens with the roof over them are going to be torn out and we are going to put picnic tables, the grille, fish frier and smoker out there for outdoor cookouts. The roof will be enlarged to cover the whole thing.
The big training pen in the grassy area will probably be removed as well. It would probably make a good prison compound if the SHTF but I won't be taking prisoners....

Welcome to Missouri~~
I don't get ticks or chiggers either.
I always get Frontline on my fingers when I'm dosing the dog and cat....so don't worry about putting it on the back of your neck or between your shoulder blades...fingers are good.
Its HOT here but whoa Nellie........I see some big old cooling thunder storms dropping off I44...should git me soon ...unless the system splits over the Salem Plateau.
It's so green in my part of MO...it's like an Easter Basket. We even have the rabbits to go along with that.
Happy Moving Day!
