Yes, I have seen this before. And I am guilty of texting while driving in the past. I think it would be foolish to think that anyone my age or younger has not. I still text while on the roadways. However now I will only type out messages while stopped at a red light or not at all, if the vehicle is in motion forget it. It's not worth the risk.
Texting while driving is dangerous, doing anything but paying attention to the road while driving is dangerous, even changing a radio station or making a phone call/talking on the phone. You shouldn't do it and if you do it is not only your life that is put at risk.
And thank goodness for the modern features that are available in cars today! My vehicle has radio controls on the steering wheel and controls for hands free calling with voice commands, all the buttons built into the steering wheel! I never have to look away from the road while answering my phone, placing a call or changing the radio station, I can even change from FM to AM or to my CD's. If I need to make a phone call? I simply press the voice command button on the steering wheel, say the name of the person I want to call, the computer says the name back to me, then I press the off hook button and my call is connected! These days there is really no excuse for not paying attention to the road even while doing other things, most all these things are available after market and when I was looking at speakers at best buy they were saying that they can install controls on my car's steering wheel even though it didn't come with it... and that was a 1987 Volkswagen Fox! No excuse for not watching the road while you drive.
Below is a picture of my wonderful steering wheel controls, all are within thumbs reach! I almost didn't pay the extra money for this upgrade! I'm so happy I did and it may have seemed expensive and overpriced at the time... but now I know it is totally worth it.

I read an article about texting and drivng that stated that doing both is actually more dangerous than drunk driving.
I have stopped several people that I could have sworn were drunk, but instead were just texting.
Here in Arkansas it is now illegal to do it,and the Judges here wont cut you any slack over it.

I ride a Motorcycle everyday. The person next to me was texting while driving and was beginning to float into my lane. The very next light I bang on her window to pay more attention to the road, didn't help much. But at least I got my frustrations out.

They passed the law here making it illegal as well. It's about time. Now if they would stop people from reading, applying makeup and sticking their head up their backsides, we would all be a lot safer....
