I'm not trying to be funny. When I was younger, I carried a pack with me, but I was never a smoker. Good for minor trades, provides a conversation starter, it can lower (even if the offer is rejected) someones guard a little, plus the hand of a smoker is in sight.

The most I ever smoked was due to this girl I liked. She smoked menthols, so every time I went to work I had a pack with me. She would come back to bum a smoke, and it lead to a few dates. Sure, she smelled like smoke, but those were fun dates, and from that point on, I was often the guy at the party who someone would bum a smoke off of. I was never part of a frat, but almost never paid the cover, because in a small way I was giving.

Then someone noticed I did not smoke much (if at all). I would normally just take a puff of the cigarette I was bumming to if it was a girl. I guess it sounds shady, but even when discovered, people laughted and started arriving at the party with something I liked.

That first step in a social interaction can be hard, and a cigarette is often an in with any smoker. I know it sounds really geeky, but it works.

Excellent. You've already been honing your bartering skills!

I would imagine that when the balloon goes up, smokes will be a great bartering item.

I've even thought about buying tobacco seed.

Don't forget a couple of cases of good whiskey.

If the SHTF and you have cigarettes, call me, send me smoke signals or whatever. I'll trade you anything you want for all you have....:kos:

I wonder what a Macanudo (or perhaps a Cohiba) would fetch after the shtf???

500 rounds of 223 ammo?

The wheels are already turning in my head.

And, BTW, Bumper - you and your family are welcome to stay at my place. Be sure to bring your guns and ammo.

Actually, Patti, if all works out we may be closer than you think soon. We've been looking at moving to Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas or Missouri. My wife just applied for a job in Joplin, MO so it may be SW Missouri. We found a small farm in Carthage we really like....

Well when you look back at the earliest British colonies over here, tobacco has been money from the start. No reason for that to change now.
